Villa Gaeta located in a hilly and panoramic position on the mountains of Chianti, near the hamlet of Moncioni, is a building of seventeenth-century origin renovated in Victorian eclectic style in the mid-nineteenth century by the lawyer Giuseppe Gaeta. Surrounded by the Pinetum, the large park of about three hectares was transformed into a collection of conifers from all over the world by the lawyer Gaeta. Passionate about botany, he planted about 160 species, many of which were imported from North America, including redwoods and the Duglasia (Pseudotsuga menziesii) that in the mid 19th century was for the first time planted right here in the Pinetum. The Monumental Arboretum is today a Protected Natural Area of Local Interest due to its great historical and naturalistic interest. In this context a permanent laboratory of design and art experimentation takes place. On the initiative of the designer Bruno Boretti, the current owner, artistic residences are held during the summer periods, with the aim of discovering young talents from the world of design and art and giving them the opportunity to realize permanent works on site which enrich the monumental Pinetum.
